We have a fabulous new part-time role as a Journal Development Editor to work for a highly respected online medical journal, in the areas of human reproduction and physiology.  The organisation is based in the Cambridge area, but the role can be worked remotely.

Reporting to the Chief Editor, the role of Journal Development Editor will be to work directly with senior editorial management on the efficient management and strategic development of the journal. This role will also involve regular analysis and reporting of key journal metrics to assess performance and development decisions.

The role will also include progressing initiatives and developments (e.g. novel content strands) as outlined by the Chairman and will identify potential new initiatives or subject areas to strengthen the journal’s position within the market sector. Other areas of responsibility will include progressing existing activities, including social media presence compilation of a quarterly digest and media coverage, (Although this may be carried out by an external source), and working with the Editorial Office as required, to help manage an efficient, rigorous and author-friendly peer-review process that maintains highly professional and scientific standards.

This is a fabulous new and varied role, ideal for someone with relevant experience who is looking for 3 days a week (flexible days).  The ideal candidate will have demonstrable proven experience of driving forward the strategic direction of a journal, and a solid understanding of how scientific journals operate, how they can be developed, how to harness the subject experts to improve the impact factor and what the impact of OA will be. You will be educated to degree level (Minimum) with a relevant life-science subject background, and relevant experience in academic publishing and the peer review process.

Your interactive, team-working and analytical skills should be second to none and excellent written and verbal English language skills are a must.
